Pupils:
- learn to write numbers
- discover addition and subtraction facts with sums of 10 and less
- learn to record these facts
- master facts through understanding the characteristics of each structurally related group:
- combinations that make 10
- adding 0, adding to 0
- adding 1, adding to 1
- adding 2, adding to 2
- addition – doubles and neighbours (consecutive numbers)
- difficult facts: 5 + 3, 3 + 5; 6 + 3, 3 + 6
- combinations that make 1 up to combinations that make 9.
- related subtraction facts for each group
- Solve word problems using these facts
